This is a Bontei,or bonseki set which comes in Bontei-tansu dated around mid.to late 1,900s.It is the creation of miniature landscapes on rectangular or oval black lacquer trays.It is made primarily of sand and stone,pebbles,and bonseki sceneries are like three dimensional paintings that seem to mysteriously pulse with the movements of nature and carry both artist and viewer into an inner depth that belies expression which started around over 560 years ago.
There are various stones to creat mountaines,also come with interesting miniture boats,man fishing.There are a sieve of large mesh to fine mesh to design oceans and mountains and every small tools are used all natural world.9 drawers contain beautiful different sands and rocks.
This tansu istself is finly made with perfect joineries and handsome handle to carry it around.Inside of tansu are divided by darker woods with charming pulls.This is a site which explains about Bonseki and tools in English.

Originally,there should be feathers and more other tolls, and some sands got mixed with other sands and slight splits around the pulls on the drawers,and there are some patina,stains,but as a whole it is in very good condition.
Representative examples of Karasansui(rocks and sand, with the sea symbolized not by water but by sand raked in patterns that suggest rippling water)are in the gardens of Ryoanji Temple and Daitokuji Temple,both in Kyoto and you might be able to make similar one in your house,and the best part of it is that you will get the best meditation while making it and after making it for sure!
