This is a wooden 'haisen'coated on urushi done by makie techinique dated around 1,920s. In olden times,the host first asked for the guest’s cup and toasted him. The cup was then returned to the guest who returned the compliment by drinking to his host. During these exchanges, the cup was rinsed in water held in a special cup-washing container placed in the center of the table which was Haisen. There are vivid kois,carps on the bottom of haisen drawn by hand carefully,and their eye are decorated with mother-of-pearls.Please enjoy all details on more pictures. Originally,there should be one more haisen,and there are slight scratches,and some areas got darken,but as a whole it is in very good condition. This will be exquisite art piece for your home!
