This is a traditional musical instrument called Yagumo-koto which is a two-stringed Japanese zither dated around Meiji(should be late 1,800 to early 1,900s).Yagumo-koto is played for kagura,sacred music and dancing performed at shrines,so it is requried to be in Shiro-shozoku,white clothing when it is played.
It is made hollowing out paulwonia wood and there are dots to press which are designed in Chidori,plover figures.On both ends,there are fantastic tasseles with crystals(not sure) and decorated with beautiful fabrics.
Every parts have special meaning and made in full details.On the back has sweet cut-out of full moon and cresent.
There are additional 3 wooden boards which can be assemble perfectly to make it stand and it has sweet cut-out of plovers across.
There are 2 types of yagumo-koto which are Kai-kin and Sei-kin and this is Kaikin-yagumo koto type.It has gorgeous wooden grain throughtout with fine detais,so PLEASE enjoy all on more pictures.
It comes in an original handsome wooden box.
Due to use and age,stringes are not attached properly and the wooden box is worn out,and 2 white dots came off from the koto,and some white rings around the stringes have cracks,and one of the hardware is missing and the wooden piece came off,also tassels and fabrics on the koto have some flaws and red threds are easy to come out and some came off already, and there are some scratches,dents,ahd fabrics have some flows,but as a whole it is in very good condition.
This stunning piece will be fantastic home decor for sure!
