This is a a pair of wooden 'haisen'coated on urushi done by makie techinique dated around 1,920s. In olden times,the host first asked for the guest’s cup and toasted him. The cup was then returned to the guest who returned the compliment by drinking to his host. During these exchanges, the cup was rinsed in water held in a special cup-washing container placed in the center of the table which was Haisen. As it is written on the box,there are decorated with beautiful motif,snow,moon and cherry blossom. There are pieces of sakura on the side and snow between and the bottom of inside has moon covered with haze.Please enjoy all details on more pictures. It comes in an original wooden box. There are slight scratches,but consdiering their age,they are in very good condition. This will be exquisite art piece for your home!
