These are a pair of Isho-ningyo(costume doll) dated Taishi(1,910-1,920).Isho-ningyo have different qualities depending on ranks,and they usually have fabulous detailed faces.According to the writing on the box,they are from a doll store called in Hyogo which is purveyors to the Imperial Household Agency.
Both have fantastic costumes since they are dancing traditional dancing.
They put has hat, crane and turtle on top and chirimen kimonos are embroidered beautifully having auspcious motif.
They have incredilbe facial expressions(look at their mouthes and eyes!), and blacken teeth,rich hairs,hairs around the face lines,layers of fantastic kimono,all are done in extremely high workmanship.Please enjoy all on more pictures!It comes in an original wooden box with sticker on the cover.
Due to age and materail,fabrics are getting thin and making small holes and have patina,some stains and one thumb finger and hand have slight cracks and one of the leg on the crane on the hat is damaged,and colors of fans ar coming off,BUT faces are in perfect conditions and exceptionally difficult to find a doll of this age and type in such good condition!!!
