This is a super rare book dated Meiji 43(1,910).
It consists of 19 pages filled with FANTASTIC pictures.
As you see from the title, this book is about the ceremonies of Japanese wedding all written in English because this book is made for foreigners.
Let us explain a little about 2 important persons related to this book.
Kozaburo Tamamura (1856-1923?) began in the photography business with a shop in Asakusa, Tokyo in 1874. In 1883 he moved to Yokohama and opened a studio where he prospered. He specialized in "souvenir photo albums" of Japan which were exported. He also conducted portrait photography in his studio. He is regarded as one of the originators of "Yokohama Shashin" (tourist photographs). It appears the zenith of his production was in the 1890s. He produced albumen photographs as well as collotypes. These were often hand colored.
It is said that in the 1890s Tamamura employed over 100 colorists to fill a special order (sometimes stated to be 180,000) for hand colored photographs. It is widely accepted that these were the albumen photographs tipped into Brinkley's Japan Described and Illustrated set which was actually published in the United States. There was another important photographer by the name of Tamamura who was in business at the same time as Tamamura Kosaburo. This was Tamamura Kihei who published this book. There was also a enterprise known as "Tamamura the Photographer, Kobe." This was a branch office of K. Tamamura's Yokohama studio.
It has writings Tamamura and another famous man,Takagi Teijiro (Publisher/Proprietor).
It comes in English language,19 hand colored collotype plates with captions(hard to see from the pictures, but all have below pictures), with tissue guards, hard boards covered with silk type fabric.
Inside has a story of how 2 young man and woman get married starting from Omiai, formal meeting with a view to marriage to marrying into his house and every pictures are just sooooo wonderful,so please enjoy every pages on pictures!!!!
Due to age, outside hardcovers are worn out and get torn on the side and one of the page around the rim has slight tear, and some patinas and stains, but considering its age, this is in really good conditions.
We have never seen this book before, specailly in this conditions, and definitly worth having for your collections! Trust me!
