This is a set of coffee cup set from Kobe Satsuma pottery. There are 6 demi-tasse cups, saucers, sugar bowl, pot and creamer dated around mid.1,900s.
Sastuma pottery was mass produced during Meiji for export purpose,so they are usually decorated with traditional patterns.
Satsuma ware is defined by its highly decorated design accentuated with gold. The adroitness and prudence of Japanese craftsmen is evident in this uniquely Japanese art, mesmerizing all viewers without end.
There are several schools of Satsuma ware, including Kyo-satsuma, Kobe-satsuma and Yokohama-satsuma. Each of them are characterized by the same intricate and bold gold ornamentation, but emit distinctively different impressions.
This is called 'Shoko China'and handpaitned beautifully.
The pattern is called Amime Cho which is butterfly on meshwork. The upper area has traditional sceneryin gold.
It is hard to see this real beauty,BUT amazing part is that there are transparency on the bottom of tea cups!!!
When you lift high under the light, the picture of Japanese woman tied hairs in traditional style wonderfully stands out!!!!!!
It is so unique that designs of bottom part(butterfly) and upper part(traditiona scene) are just East meets West in this small porcelain! All are slightly different done in full details by high skills, and can not describe all,so PLESE enjoy all details on more pictures!!!
There are some stains (can be removed) and dust inside of cups, and some colors came off and gold colors got black, also very slight dent on the side of cover of pot which should be made during kiln process, but no chips, cracks and there are in really good conditions.
Again, this set is really fantastic and prefect to add to your collections for sure!
