This is a set of 4 Hyotan(Gourd),water container dated around mid.1,900s.It has dark reddish color from aging and wonderful curved shapes which are all natural,so they are all different.Oen of them has stopper attached by cords and tassels. Old hyotan are valued by Japanese connoisseurs and played an important roles in the daily life. There are some scratches,also some discolorations on the tasseles,and getting frazzled,but considering their age,all are in good conditions and no major damages. Hyotan is auspicious from the way it grow in clusters which symbolizes prosperity.One of famous Samurai,Hideyoshi Toyotomi used this symbol on his banner.This is not only so lovely to display,it also bring some luck to your home! *Size above is the biggest gourd.
