This is a super rare a pair of Barei,bells for horse dated around early 1,900s.(treads must have been replaced later)
In Japan,horses decorated with gorgeous barei are usually for special festivals or offering for shrines.As it is written on the box,top part has beautiful shape of Senmen,folding fans and family crest of bamboo leaves in the middle.Bamboo are one of the auspicious motif and because bamboo never break against accumulation of snow,so it also symbolizes strength.
Below it,there are sooooo many small bells!, 24 bells on both sides and 2 in the middle,so totally bells are 100!.Amazingly,they are extremely light! and make incredible peaceful sound,Shyan,shyan,,,,,in Japanese.
In order to hang them from the neck of horse,it comes with a Tsuri-kanagu,hanging hook,so both bells can be hung on the hooks.
It comes in an original wooden box.
Due to material and age,it is rusty and get greener and again because the bells are really finely made of thin material,some jointed areas of bell are getting separated and smashed,and 2 lower parts of bells came off,and one of the family crest in the middle slides off,but as a whole it is in very good condition.
This is soooooooooooo beautiful,but it is too bad that you can not hear this fantastic sounds(It is kind of like the bells you shake at the temple when you pray,but a little higher tone).It will be fabulous hanging decoration for your home or for your poney!?
