This is one of the woodblock printe book of Ema dated Taisho 7(1,918).Ema is a votive picture tablet and are often decorated on the front with an image related to the shrine or to the animal associated with the Chinese calendar and most of ema have pictures of horse because horse was originally dedicated. This book has 6 collections of famous historical ema in Japan.First one is dissolution of a relationship(can see how they look!) in Tokyo, second is horse in Osaka, and sacred ball and religious gate in Kyoto, cat in Tokyo, and monkey in Osaka and last one is rooster in Nara. All have special historical meaning,so there are explanations on the other page(these are also woodblock printed). All are done in beautiful and warm Mingei-touch,so please enjoy all on more pictures. Due to age, there are some patina and stains, but pictures are in good condition. This woodblock printed book is so different and would be charming wall decoration framing these!
