This is a set of wooden trays called Midare-bako dated around mid.1,900s.Midare simply means rumpled and kami means hairs.Old days, noble ladies store accessories in this box during tiding hairs and this is named after it and they usually come in 2 different sizes and one fitting inside another. Because they are for ladies, they are decorated with elegant pieces of papers which have poetic writings done by ink brush. They have useful fan shaped cut-out on both sides to carry easily. These are made without single nails done by traditional wood works. Due to age and material, there are some stains specially on the larger one being stuck, and joineries on the coreners are getting separated, also there are some scratches, stains, papers around the rims are getting wrinkles, but as a whole it is in very good condition and they look nice even applying different papers on! Because it is made of sou-giri,all paulownia,so it will be ideal to store your art works, paper, lines, you name it!
