This Robuchi is a hearth frame coated on urushi on wood used in tea room for tea ceremony dated late 1,900s.
The ro or sunken hearth consists in the rodan, hearth itself, and the hearth frame is a tea utensil and can be found in various styles.
From November to April is the ro (sunken hearth) season when the hearth is set up in the chashitsu. From May to October, the ro is closed and the furo, brazier, season starts. It it totally black, but shows nice wooden grains under the coatings. It comes with additional cover (This is a plywood)to close which is so useful. There are slight scratches and dents,so coatings came off,but this seems never been used and it is in a very good condition.
This will be perfect for your tea practice! If you don't, this will be magnificent frame for your art work!?
