This charming baskets are Sumi-ire(charcoal container) which used to put burning charcoal to bring to Hibachi dated mid.1,900's.The top is made of thick bamboos to make a beautiful roop and handles are connected nicely on top.The basket is woven in geometrical patters.Inside have additional papers not to touch charcolas directly. It looks simple, but it requirs a lot of skills and attentions. Some thin bamboo are broken, got separated and papers inside is totally black from charcoal, and still gets dark, but as a whole it is in very good condition. It will be wonderful for planters, putting some green like ivy,try and see!
