This is a supreme Satsuma yaki from Meiji period(1868-1912). This piece is one of the best piece from the age, when Satsuma (yaki) pottery and other handicrafts were the main export item of Japan. This piece had to be exported to Europe or United States, and returned to Japan in the later age. You may know the features of Satsuma yaki are 1. exquisite miniature paintings with lots of gold 2. ivory china with cracking('kannyu')
This piece has EXCEPTIONALLY fine paintings all over it. Each figures wear kimono with patterned, but their
sizes are only about 1.5cm-2cm(0.6-0.8in)! Please check the main scene of inside - ladies are playing with snowman! Each scenes are pinted in butterfly shape pattern, and outside of the butterfly, you can find incredibly fine butterfly motif. Outside of the upper hem has some slight frays, but it doesn't have prominent flaws. We highly recommend this rare Satsuma yaki bowl.
