This is a set of 3 men playing Igo(go) made of porcelain dated mid.1,900s.Go had reached Japan from China by the 7th century, and gained popularity at the imperial court in the 8th century. By the beginning of the 13th century.Go is played by alternately placing black or white stones on the vacant intersections of a 19×19 rectilinear grid. The man wearing nice glasses(?) bends over and are about to place a white stone probably after long deliberation in his head.He has traditional Karakusa(Arabesque)patterned kimono inside and outside kimono has fantastic wrikles from his pose. His opponent sits down on the other side who puts his hand in his chin, other hand on the container of stones cocks his head slightly. He puts on nice jacket with kamono(family crest) on, and close it in the front. He looks like thinking over what comes next. The spectator(or judge) is so excited enjoying being in part of it.He also wears handsome kimono with kamon, ties in the front. He should be pounding his folding fan when he gets excited! Go board is made just like a real one, lovely black and white stones on grid, carved legs, also carved in the middle. The man with glasses's mouth is turned down at the corners, great raised cheecks, the other looks down ,and the last one has many lines on this forehead, wonderful shapes of head, carved happy eyes, and missing teeth in the front.ALL are really charming and adorable done by high skills with sence of humor.PLESE enjoy all on more pictures There are slight lines getting separatd around the edges and some colors are coming off,but as a whole it is in very good condition. Once you look at them,it is so hard to take your eyes off being caputured by their uniqueness! *One of the hand is removable. |
