This is a set of 6 bowls dated around mid.1,900s with the auspicious pictures of Yoro-no taki(Story of Yoro fall).There is a famous legend in Mino (now it is Gifu prefecture).A long time ago, there is a young poor man,Gen Jounai who works so hard go up mountains to get firewood,then he can get money selling these to buy sake for his blind father since his only pleasure is drinking sake.One day, when Jounai takes a nap in the mountains, he smells sake,then wakes up in front of fountain where sake is gushing forth.He laddles it and brings back to his father,as soon as he drinks it he recovers from magical sake.Hearing this story,Governer of Mino was impressed a dutiful son and Nounai was ordered to be in charge of this area.Here below is a picture of the fall. http://www2.ocn.ne.jp/~ynhida/yamagatari/katari/yourou2.htm This set has one scenery which Jounai is laddling sake into gourd shaped bottle from fall in the mountains with all beautiful auspicious motifs which are crane,raising sun,pine tree, and plum. Kutani pottery is a small village in Kaga Province on the northwest coast of the main island of Japan with a long history of porcelain production,well known for colorful pictures and it has a name Kutani on the bottom. All are hand painted,so everything is slightly differnt. This set has some frays and stains,also some colors are fading,but as a whole it is in very good condition. This set is so conversational and will brighten your dining table for sure!
