In 552 at the beginning of the Asuka period, Buddhism was brought from China to Japan and by the late 15th century, religioug arts became increasingly important.
Japanese have valued emotional and aesthetic intuitions in expressing and appreciating their religious experiences and they developed explicitly religious poetry, architecture, and visual arts.With the development of religious art, the the art of traditional religious music and dance of shrines has been accelerated known as Gagaku and Bugaku which were performed for the purpose of entertaining and appeasing Shinto gods.
